Cedar Hill Enrichment Center Committees
Ecology/Environment Committee
Committee Goals: To assure that Cedar Hill is or strives to be a model on ecologically healthy environment – to live who we say we are
Committee Responsibilities:
- Ecologically sound principles in buildings
- Care of gardens & grounds (i.e., sound materials)
- Recycling
- Responsible
- to research native plants & trees and care of such
- To research environmentally safe products
- To research possible energy saving functions and/or improvements of present buildings
Earth Literacy Committee
Committee Goals: To promote through information and formal classes sound principles of ecology. To conduct board education, recommend classes and programs to Program Committee.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Promote advocacy for Earth in specific ways.
- Research current teachers, facilitators, desired classes, issues to be addressed by e-mail and phone with public officials.
Program Committee
Committee Goals: To design a well-balanced series offerings each quarter.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Responsible for researching programs people want and need
- Responsible for acquiring facilitators/presenters who are qualified
- Receive recommendations from other committees
Marketing/Development Committee
Committee Goals: To effectively convey the accomplishments, vision, programs and services of Cedar Hill.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Promotion and marketing of Cedar Hill to the general public, to potential donors and to businesses.
- Developing relationships with local media, community members, businesses, political leaders and other community and non-profit organizations.
Special Events Committee
(at this time, combined with Marketing Committee)
Committee Goals: To plan and execute four special events per year - one an event of thanks for volunteers, two for significant income and one for community education (i.e., Al Gore movie)
Committee Responsibilities:
- Research possible fund raising events and to research community education event.
Hospitality Committee
Committee Goals: To assure that newcomers are welcomed and are contacted after their initial visit to Cedar Hill
Volunteers Committee
Committee Goals: To identify, invite and schedule volunteers.
To receive suggestions from other committee and board members. To work with the Special Events Committee for an annual recognition and thank you event for volunteers.
Policy and Procedures/ Bylaws Committee
Committee Goals: To assure that appropriate policies are in place governing staff, board and volunteer behavior.
Committee Responsibilities:
- To research the latest laws for non-profit organizations and present necessary action called for to the review and update by-laws on an annual basis to ensure that Cedar Hill’s activities and Board activities conform to guidelines of the by-laws
- to provide written recommendations, when needed, regarding changes to the by-laws
- Monitor 501-c-3 issues for Cedar Hill
Finance Committee
Committee Goals: To assure that financials are in good order and are prepared in a timely fashion for the board. To assure tax forms are prepared and taxes paid as required by law.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Supervise the fiscal solvency of Cedar Hill
- Research current laws for nonprofit accounting
- Assist the Board of Directors, Executive Director and staff in preparing, analyzing and monitoring various financial documents to achieve the highest form of fiscal accountability
- Assist in preparation and presentation of budgets and financial statements to the Board of Directors
Nominating Committee
Committee Goals: To bring names of potential board members to the Board of Directors.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain the strongest and most appropriate board membership for the benefit of Cedar Hill.
- Research continually for potential board members.
- Develop, maintain and present orientation materials and workshops for new board members.
